PSALMS 118:1-24

Introduction

• The theme of Psalm 118 is thanksgiving to God and reliance on God rather than on human strength.

David summarizes the reasons for giving thanks to God into two Vs 1

I. For the Lord is Good:
This is enough reason to give thanks to the Lord.

II. For His Love/mercy endures forever
The psalmist learned that God ís love to his people has no end/limitation

• Israelites many times broke the covenant with God, yet the Lord forgave them and His love continued.
• When we became sinners through Adam and deserved eternal punishment, He sent His begotten Son to save us.
• God has been good to us and he continues to be good to us.

The Call to Give Thanks
Psalms 118:2 & 4

Three groups are called to give thanks
I. All Israel

II. The house of Aaron

III. All people who fear the Lord

There are many reasons to give thanks
Psalms 145:16

1. He satisfies the desires of your heart
   Ephessians 3:20

• He provides beyond your expectations
• He gives life, material things
  families, jobs etc.

1. He answers your prayers
   Psalms 145:18
   Psalms 118:5
   Psalms 34: 4

• How many times you called
  and he answered? Give thanks to the Lord!

1. He protects you
   Psalms 145:20
   Psalms 121:5
   Psalms 18:2
2. The Lord is your Helper
   Psalms 118:5-9

Psalms 118:5-9 is a confession of total dependence on God ís help
Psalms 46:1

5. He gives you victory Psalms 118:10-14

Conclusion

I. Thank God for the victory he has given
